Great Value COOK Nights - Cost Comparisons
COOK meals are perfect for when you fancy a night off cooking … something even the most passionate home cook needs now and again. But how do our prices compare with making it yourself?
We followed some of our bestselling recipes for two at home and found it was more expensive getting the ingredients from the supermarket.
We based this on checking Sainsbury’s online ingredient prices in July 22 for a two portion recipe. We didn't include ingredients we had in the fridge or kitchen cupboard (including any alcohol - even though that's usually a big cost) and used the smallest available amounts of what we needed.
In each case, the COOK option was cheaper. We’ve also compared cooking times (although of course cooking a COOK meal only involves putting it into the oven or microwave) and the number of pans you’ll have to wash up.
While there isn’t any food waste with a COOK meal, we can’t factor in food waste when it comes to cooking from scratch, as that will depend on what you do with any leftovers.
