  • We've given this classic recipe some magic touches, like adding a little redcurrant jelly in the gravy.
  • We add a little rosemary and thyme to the minced prime beef.
  • The mash is lovely and creamy thanks to the butter and mascarpone. An obvious addition is the black pepper and mustard seed crumbs.

Try it with:

  • There’s no need to be too fancy with a cottage pie as good as this. Just some Peas & Leeks or green beans on the side are a perfect accompaniment.

How We Make It At Our Kitchen

  • It all starts with great ingredients. We braise prime beef mince for 90 minutes until tender.
  • Then we sauté onion, celery and carrots, and add beef stock, butter and flour to make the gravy. Then in goes a little redcurrant jelly to balance the flavours.
  • We blast freeze the mince base (so the top doesn’t sink into it when it’s heated at home) before adding the mash. It’s special mash, of course, with egg yolks, butter, mascarpone and seasoning. Then we finish it off with a topping black pepper and mustard seed crumb. Not only does it look better and gives it some crunch, but it helps with the consistency of the mash during cooking.
