It Runs in the Family
The Mums and Daughters at COOK
Since day dot, COOK has been a family affair. You’ve heard plenty about siblings Ed, Rosie and James, but family ties run much deeper than that.
Across our kitchens, shops and offices, you’ll find mums and daughters (and fathers and sons) working side by side. We didn’t set out to make it this way. We like to think it’s happened because when people find somewhere they love working, they tell the people they love about it.
And sometimes, they bring them along.

Steph and Chloe
In the Concessions Office team, Steph and Chloe work as part of the same team, just in different roles. It means plenty of chances for a quick catch-up during the week (and trips to Home Bargains together at the end of the day). Ask who’s the boss and you’ll get the same answer from both of them, at exactly the same time: “Me.” Like mother, like daughter.

Lucinda and Soraia
On the evening shift in our Puddings kitchen, Lucinda and Soraia work side by side. There’s lots of laughs. Lots of conversation. And a shared rhythm that only comes from knowing someone inside out. Together they get the job done … and very happily.

Zoe and Ellie
Zoe joined COOK ten years ago. Five years later, her daughter Ellie followed. In the early days, Zoe taught Ellie everything she knew. Packing, processes, pride in doing things properly. Ellie flourished, grew in confidence and has since stepped into a Supervisor role in our Classics kitchen. Knowledge passed down. Confidence built up. And a bit of healthy independence. Exactly how it should be.

Naomi and Her Three Daughters
Naomi works alongside not one, but three daughters: Lily, Alex and Emily. Four women. One workplace. There are lift shares and childcare swaps. Snacks delivered at break time. The occasional telling-off for chatting too much (some things never change). Naomi says working together gives her precious time with her daughters now they’ve flown the nest. It doesn’t get more family than that.

Carri and Keeley
In the Puddings kitchen, Carri and Keeley share pride in what they do and how they do it. Carri says it’s turned their relationship into not just parent and child, but best friends.

Julie and Lois
At our Dorking shop, Julie and Lois are a proper mother/daughter duo. Julie joined as Shop Leader last year and Lois soon followed as her very first recruit. Working together has given them a new appreciation for each other, though the lines between boss and mum can still get a little blurry. Lois has been known to call Julie “Mum” in front of customers - which they absolutely love - and the rest of the team can’t help but smile when the occasional bit of mother-and-daughter bickering drifts across the shop floor. Feels like home.
It Runs in the Family
So, this Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating the mothers and daughters of COOK, and feeling hugely grateful for everything they bring, both individually and together.
Thank you for bringing your care, your graft and your laughter to work. For opening the door to the people you love and helping our COOK family grow in the best possible way.
We’re very lucky to have you.

Leading the Way
For International Women’s Day, we caught up with Lucy and Jennifer, two inspiring, young dairy farmers who work with Barber’s in Somerset, where we get all our Cheddar. They are both part of the Barber’s Steering Group, elected representatives that help in the evolution of Barber’s relationship with their 150 farmers.
