Paying for plastic bags might seem a bit annoying but it's ultimately a good thing. Experience elsewhere suggests there will be a dramatic decrease in usage, leaving the planet much better off. After we’ve paid VAT, all the proceeds from your 5p will go to the charity, FoodCycle.
FoodCycle is a national charity that sets out to build communities and tackle food poverty by cooking communal meals using surplus ingredients from supermarkets and local retailers. Their volunteers do great work and we love how FoodCycle works to bring people together by making and sharing good food.
How does it work?
FoodCycle partners with big supermarkets and small local retailers to collect surplus food. Their army of more than 1,200 volunteers then cook this food each week in local ‘hubs’ around the country. They take a creative, ready-steady-cook approach to transform their fresh ingredients into three-course dining experiences for people who really benefit.
FoodCycle is a registered charity no. 1134423, and a company limited by guarantee 7101349. FoodCycle is also a charity registered in Scotland SC041893.
FAQs
How will it work for online orders?
You’ll have the option to opt out at the online checkout. If you don’t, we’ll charge you based on an estimate of the number of bags we’ll need to pack your order (we’re guessing 5p per £30).
If I opt out, how will it work for my Click & Collect order?
Please bring a bag to put your order in when you collect. If you don’t, unfortunately we’ll need to charge you at the till.
If I opt out, how will it work for my Home Delivery order?
For our national courier delivery service there will be no change as your order will arrive in an insulated box. For all local deliveries that used to be delivered in bags we’ll arrive with your order in cool bags that you can unpack from. We’ll need to take the cool bag back to re-use for future orders.
