How we make it

The sweet soy sauce in this delicious vegetarian recipe is made by frying garlic and ginger in sesame oil, then adding dark soy sauce and palm sugar. The sliced onions, shredded cabbage and green peppers are then stir-fried very quickly so they maintain their crunch when you cook this up at home. The cup mushrooms are thickly sliced and marinated in garlic and dark soy sauce before being flash roasted and mixed in with the oyster mushrooms.

Did you know: This surprising veggie dish is so good over rice you won’t even miss the meat. It’s even managed to convert a few mushroom haters at the COOK kitchen!

Ingredients

AT COOK WE USE THE SAME INGREDIENTS YOU WOULD USE AT HOME.

We never put additives or preservatives into our food. We do occasionally use kitchen cupboard ingredients that include some additives in their sub-ingredients (for example Worcestershire Sauce used in our Spaghetti Bolognese, which contains Tamarind Extract).

Cup Mushrooms (19%), Oyster Mushrooms (13%), Cabbage (11%), Onions, Water Chestnuts, Green Peppers (6%), Szechuan Paste [Soya], Sesame Oil [Soya], Coconut Sugar, Corn Oil, Dark Soy Sauce (4%) [Wheat Gluten, Soya], Garlic, Ginger Puree, Water, White Wine Vinegar [Sulphites], Roast Onion Stock [Wheat Gluten, Soya], Salt.

Szechuan Paste contains: Tomato Paste, Garlic, Red Chilli, Ginger, Soyabean Oil, Spirit Vinegar, Salt. Ginger Puree contains: Ginger Puree, Acidity Regulator: Citric Acid. Dark Soy Sauce contains: Water, Soybeans, Salt, Sugar, Wheat Flour. Sesame Oil contains: Soya Oil, Sesame Oil. Roast Onion Stock contains: Maltodextrin, Partially Reconstituted Roast Onion, Salt, Molasses, Soy Sauce (Water, Soybean, Salt, Wheatflour, Sugar, Colour: Plain Caramel, Preservative: Potassium Sorbate), Sugar, Sunflower Oil, Roast Onion Extract, Onion Powder, Yeast Extract (Yeast, Salt, Rapeseed Oil, Acidity Regulator: Citric Acid), Natural Flavouring. Cooking/Serving Instructions
