How We Make It At Our Kitchen

There’s a lot of flavour packed into this curry. It begins with marinating the chicken overnight in yoghurt, ginger, garlic, lemon juice and a careful blend of spices from our Spice Room.

We use a traditional Indian cooking technique for the sauce, making a base from garlic, onion, curry leaves, tomatoes and a dazzling array of spices, which is cooked for around 50 minutes to avoid that raw spice taste you can find in pre-prepared Indian dishes. Then we add red lentils and finish with natural yogurt, tamarind paste, lemon juice, and chopped coriander.

What Is Bhunaring?

  • 'Bhunaring' is what we do at COOK for the first stage in making all of our tasty Indian curries.
  • We begin by shallow frying chopped garlic until golden brown, giving it a lovely nutty flavour. Then we add diced or sliced onions, season and cook until soft.
  • In go the ground spices (depending on the curry) and chopped tomatoes, which stop the dry spices sticking to the pan. We cook on a low-to-medium heat for 45-60 minutes until the base has thickened considerably and the oil has come to the top. Bhunaring complete!
  • We then build on this base and the sauce takes on its own personality for each of the different curries.

Cooking Instructions

At our kitchen, we prepare food by hand using the same ingredients and techniques you would at home. We then freeze our meals at -35°C so it tastes freshly made when you cook it at home (no nasty additives or preservatives required). Most of our food can be heated from frozen (sometimes in minutes in your microwave). Check the instructions below.

Preheat oven. Remove sleeve, pierce film. Place on baking tray in the centre of the oven.

Oven Settings

Fan 170°C, Electric 190°C, Gas Mark 5.

Remove sleeve, pierce film. Place on microwaveable plate. Cook on full power.
